The start of the paddle power showdown has begun!
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Arysteq and Simonis Storm Schools table tennis tournament that took place on Saturday, 17th February 2024 witnessed intense competition as several schools converged to showcase their talent across various age categories.
Hosted at the prestigious Wanderers sports club, the atmosphere was charged with excitement as young athletes displayed their skills and battled it out for supremacy on the table.
Emerging as the standout performers were the young talents from DHPS, who demonstrated remarkable prowess to secure multiple victories and assert their dominance early in the competition. Lian Gebauer and Kevin Zhang bagged both the under 15 and under 19 wins of the day In the boys under 12 category, Fillemon Ikanda from Olof Palme Primary School emerged victorious in a hard-fought final against Daniel Beukes, showcasing exceptional talent and determination on the table.
The under 15 divisions witnessed intense battles, with Kevin Zhang claiming the boys’ title after a spirited performance, while Lian Gebauer displayed dominance in the girls’ category, securing the top spot. Caden Bosman and Kelly Zhang emerged as formidable finalists, showcasing their skill and resilience throughout the competition. The under 19 age group saw familiar faces compete at a higher level, with Kevin Zhang and Caden Bosman showcasing their prowess once again in the boys’ division.
Meanwhile Lian Gebauer continued her impressive run to clinch the girls’ title, with tiny powerhouse Kelly Zhang putting up a commendable performance as the finalist. In the plates division we saw victories from Hangula Immanuel (Olof Palme Primary) in the boys under 13 categories. Fillemon Ikanda and Cadence Farmer (St. Pauls College) walk away as the under 15 plates winners and the under 19 division sees Justina Namupolo (Hage Geingob SSS) and Eeno Usiku (St. Pauls College) as the victorious winners.
DHPS asserted their dominance throughout the tournament, clinching multiple wins across various age categories. With their players delivering standout performances, DHPS showcased their commitment to excellence and left lasting impressions on the spectators and competitors alike.
The Wanderers Table Tennis Club bagged most of the day’s wins, despite the formidable competition, the young athletes under Wanderers Table Tennis Club displayed remarkable skill and determination. “Their presence served as a testament to the depth of talent nurtured by the club and highlighted the importance of grassroots development in sports.” Says coach Wayne Green.
